Soil Phosphatase Activity and Phosphorus Content as Influenced by Catch Crops Cultivated as Green Manure

چکیده
In a 3-year experiment, the effect of catch crop management [catch crop incorporated in autumn (A) or mulched (B) vs plots without a catch crop (C)] on soil acid (PAC) and alkaline (PAL) phosphatase activities as well as on the available phosphorus content (PAVAIL) were investigated on typical Alfisol. The catch crops were sown at the beginning of August and ploughed in the autumn in 2008, 2009, and 2010, or left as mulch during the winter. Soil samples were taken four times a year from spring barley plots that were grown in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Generally, catch crop treatment significantly influenced the enzymatic activity as compared to the control. The PAC activity was significantly greater with a mulched catch crop than in a ploughed one only in I and II sampling dates, whereas the PAL activity was not influenced by the method and time of field pea management. The time of sampling significantly influenced the PAL activity in 2011 and the PAC activity

Influence of catch crop on soil properties and yield of spring barley
Biomass of legumes grown as catch crops improves soil properties and thus soil conditions for following crops. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of field pea (Pisum sativum L.) grown as a catch crop and used for green manure on soil properties and yielding of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). Field experiments were conducted in 2008-2011 in the randomized block design with ...

Alfalfa is a good green manure source, but its effect on rice growth has not been fully elucidated. Two green manure species, alfalfa and broad bean (Vicia faba L.), and two N fertilizer levels, alone or combination, were applied to a rice field. The results indicated that alfalfa had more pronounced effects on increasing soil labile phosphorus (P) fractions (including NaHCO3-Pi, NaOH-Pi), P up...
متن کاملTurnover and losses of phosphorus in Swedish agricultural soils: long-term changes, leaching trends, and mitigation measures.
Transport of phosphorus (P) from agricultural fields to water bodies deteriorates water quality and causes eutrophication. To reduce P losses and optimize P use efficiency by crops, better knowledge is needed of P turnover in soil and the efficiency of best management practices (BMPs). In this review, we examined these issues using results from 10 Swedish long-term soil fertility trials and var...

In line with sustainable agriculture development, an experiment was conducted including tillage as the main factor in two conventional systems (plowing and mixing fertilizer with soil) and no tillage (leaving residuals of green manure and direct corn sowing). The fertilizer resources were T0: control, T1: barley green manure without chemical and manure fertilizers, T2: barley green manure with ...
متن کاملFreeze-thaw effects on phosphorus loss in runoff from manured and catch-cropped soils.
Concern over nonpoint source P losses from agricultural lands to surface waters in frigid climates has focused attention on the role of freezing and thawing on P loss from catch crops (cover crops). This study evaluated the effect of freezing and thawing on the fate of P in bare soils, soils mixed with dairy manure, and soils with an established catch crop of annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum...
